What this is

Enough tennis to actually improve, with a city worth the flight

Three hours on court on four mornings, in two sessions with a break between them. That is the amount of court time where something changes: a grip that stops slipping, a second serve you trust, a volley you no longer back away from. Two players on a court with one coach, so every ball is yours and nothing is spent waiting your turn.

By one o’clock you are done, showered and free. Budapest is small enough to cross on foot, the thermal baths are a serious recovery tool rather than a tourist stop, and dinner costs a fraction of what it does in Western Europe. Come alone or come with someone who does not play — we built the afternoons for both.

Why here

Three reasons people pick Budapest over the usual places

The courts

Clay and hard courts

Hungary grows up on clay: longer rallies, kinder on the knees, and the surface that teaches you to build a point. Outdoor hard courts are there too, so you also practise on the surface most people play at home.

The recovery

Thermal water, not a spa menu

Budapest sits on hot springs. By Thursday you have three mornings on court in your legs, and an afternoon in 38-degree water is the difference between finishing the week strong and limping through Friday.

The afternoons

A city you can cross on foot

Castle Hill, the river, the Market Hall and the old seventh district are all within half an hour of each other. No day is spent in transit.

The week

Mornings on court, afternoons in the city

Two 90-minute sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with an hour’s break between them. Wednesday is a day at Lake Balaton.

Monday

Groundstrokes & rhythm

Levels are set in the first session. Forehand and backhand under feed, then live rallying after the break.

Group dinner, 19:00
Tuesday
08:30 – 10:00
11:00 – 12:30

Serve & return

Toss, the trophy position, a second serve that holds up. Return stance and contact point.

14:30

Market Hall & the Danube

Lángos at the Great Market Hall, then an hour on the river past Parliament.

Wednesday
All day

Lake Balaton

A day out of the city. The lakeside promenade at Balatonfüred, then the abbey and the views over the water from Tihany.

Day trip · no tennis
Thursday
08:30 – 10:00
11:00 – 12:30

Net play & patterns

Volleys and the approach shot, then the first four shots of a point played on purpose.

14:30

Széchenyi baths

Thermal pools in the City Park. Your legs recover for the last morning on court.

Entry included
Friday
08:30 – 10:00
11:00 – 12:30

Points & doubles

Positioning and poaching, then a friendly round-robin to finish the week.

14:30

Gellért Hill

Up to the Citadella for the view over both banks, then the farewell dinner.

Farewell dinner, 19:00

Meals are not included. We book the table for the Monday and Friday dinners, and everyone orders and pays for their own.

Short break

Thursday to Sunday, if a week is too long

Arrive on Thursday. Three mornings on court — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — six hours in total, with the same two-players-on-a-court format and the same coaches. Two afternoons in the city before you fly home.

Coaching

Two players on a court, or the coach to yourself

Level 1

Beginner

You have never played, or you picked up a racket a handful of times. You will be rallying by Wednesday.

Level 2

Improver

You can keep a rally going from the baseline and you are learning how to play actual points.

Level 3

Intermediate

A club player. You serve, you play matches, and you want the technical gaps named out loud.

Level 4

Advanced

You play league or competitive club tennis and you are here for tactics and sharpening, not basics.

Tell us your dates and your level

This is an application, not a payment. We read every one and reply with who you would share a court with, the hotel list and how to pay the deposit.

We reply within two working days. No deposit is taken from this form. We use your details only to answer your application — see our Privacy policy.

Questions

Before you apply

I would be travelling alone. Is that odd?

It is the most common way to come. You share a court with one other guest from Monday morning, and with six people in the week you know everyone by Tuesday.

What if my partner on court is the wrong level?

We pair you before you arrive and tell you who you will be playing with. If Monday morning says otherwise, we change the pairing or put you on your own court for the rest of the week.

What happens if it rains?

Indoor courts are held as backup for every week. The hours do not change.

Where should I stay?

We send a short list of hotels and apartments within walking distance of the courts, with the rate we have negotiated. You book directly.

Can I skip an afternoon?

Of course. Nothing after 12:30 is compulsory, and the city is easy to wander on your own.

Do I need to speak Hungarian?

No. Coaching, the afternoons and everything in writing are in English.
